After the cataclysmic world event known as The Fallout, society regresses into a dystopian apocalypse of city-states and marauding mobs. Dust covers the now lifeless world. A thick haze stretches above skyscrapers, transcending into an abyss of smoke.

Since The Fallout, a systematized group known as Congress has taken over. They enforce strict laws, oppressive regimes, and strike down any rebellion that dares stand in the way of their perverted nationalism. They patrol the barren streets at dusk and annihilate anyone they deem a threat to their crooked ideals or their sociopolitical power.

Mike, the son of a Congress Member, leaves home and meets up with a group of orphans who, too, have been abandoned by their elite fathers in Congress. Together, they explore the wasteland of their destroyed city and scavenge for food, shelter, and anything that'll help them fight back against Congress. However, trouble soon finds the orphans, and they quickly learn they can trust no one, and their next day is never guaranteed.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Victims: Part 1 is a post apocalyptic fiction book written by Preston Lingle. Preston primarily writes dystopian book series for young adults, apocalyptic fiction, and science fiction book series, including Victims. This dystopian fiction novel focuses on characters whose fathers have abandoned them, and initially band together to survive. However, after facing hardship and seeing their fathers vie for more power, they decide to rise and face their fathers' Congress.

Sci fi novels and science fiction novels are Preston’s preferred genre. Dystopian literature explores themes of isolation, rebellion, defiance, while the mix of science fiction stories bring a futuristic tone of optimism to a genre generally grayed out.
